Trying to say "Yes"

I read somewhere, sometime ago, that parents should try to say "Yes" to their children more than "No" - easier said than done...
My wife and I have 3 children, 2 daughters 14 & 15 and our son 11 - (Great children!) the challenge comes in the fairly constant requests to "do stuff" "buy stuff" "have stuff" and it will wear us out sometimes. I had a great example in my own mother, who was great at saying "OK" if it was at all possible. I dont believe my 3 brothers and i were spoiled, at least not in a material sense - but we were spoiled in having lots of opportunites to "try living".

We struggle today with the fear of being overly permissive & spoiling our kids, vs. providing them opportunities to explore and "do+buy stuff" and explore what we can.

I think this will be an ongoing opportunity to help our kids develop their interests and hopefully grow some self-control on their part; not everything can/will be available.

First time at bat...

After much reading of other peoples blogs, Hugh Hewitt has finally won me over - it has been a gradual transition from 1) Newspaper News to 2) TV news to 3) Radio News to 4) Internet News and Blogs.
Being slightly ADD, this form of information gathering is wonderful - easy to follow a string of posts, and jump to another site..

I work with several younger men, in their mid 20's, and they do not get a major newspaper delivered to their homes - yet they routinley will email me a copy of an article I read in the morning paper during the day - they are Always online and seem to cover a much greater amount of media than i have; in addition to emailing the article to me, they will have also sent the same article to 20 (or 200) other people - while i am still looking for the scissors to cut out the clipping, copy it and try to think of a place to file it so i can find it again in the future.

i will try to be diligent in my blogging - and look forward to the very first post (from ANYONE other than family)
